The Best Damn Ooey Gooey Brownies (With a Side of Bittersweet Closure)

There was this brownie. That brownie. The one that lived rent-free in my head for years. My sister used to make it. Thick, chewy, chocolatey, with this glossy, gooey, fudge-like icing on top. The kind of brownie that makes your teeth hurt but your soul sigh with happiness.

And if you know my situation, you know I haven’t talked to her in a really long time.

When I went no contact with the family, I knew I was also saying goodbye to little things like that brownie recipe. I even sent a text once. Genuinely polite. Just asked if she could share it. No response. Not even a ghost of a reply. And yeah, that stung in its own petty way. But also… not surprising.

Fast forward to me and Brett, tag-teaming dessert brainstorming like we do. I was reminiscing about those brownies, and I went down the deepest rabbit hole of recipe blogs, Pinterest boards, anywhere I could look trying to find something close. One recipe came up. I made it. It was fine. Good even. But not it.

A year later I decided to try again, but this time I gave it my own twist.

And holy sweet tooth, I nailed it. This is my revenge brownie. Sticky, rich, unapologetically sweet, and made with love, sass, and just the right amount of “you don’t get to gatekeep joy.”

The Recipe?

Not sharing. But I will share this. Make something that feels like a win. Something so good you laugh out loud when you bite into it. Something that reminds you the best revenge isn’t just living well. It’s baking better.

Enjoy the chocolatey goodness. And if you’ve got your own bittersweet memories wrapped up in a recipe, remember to keep your joy. And go about your damn day.
