Her Voice Matters, Even Without Words

Okay, let’s talk about it. Shoes in the house.

Look, I know some people don’t think twice about it. They walk right in with their sneakers, boots, sandals, whatever, and keep on moving. But not over here. We don’t wear shoes in our home, and if you’ve got a baby, maybe it’s time to rethink it too.

And no, for me, it’s not just about the germs.

Yes, shoes walk through grocery store parking lots, gas station bathrooms, parks, sidewalks covered in who knows what. That’s gross, sure. But beyond the dirt, bacteria, and all that mess, it’s also about respect.

Alice is tiny. She’s a baby. She’s learning, exploring, crawling, laying on the floor, rolling around. She’s not old enough to say, “Hey Mom, I don’t love that I just licked the same spot someone’s muddy boot walked across.” But her voice still matters. Just because she doesn’t have words yet doesn’t mean I shouldn’t advocate for her comfort, safety, and space.

I don’t know about you, but I personally wouldn’t crawl around on a floor people tracked all over with outside shoes. Then pop my fingers in my mouth right after. But that’s exactly what babies do.

Alice deserves a space that’s hers. A place where she can explore without me worrying about what’s lurking in the carpet fibers. And more than that, she deserves a home where her needs are considered even if she can’t express them yet.

So yeah, if you come over, we’ll kindly ask you to kick off your shoes at the door. Not because we’re uptight. Not because we’re trying to be fancy. But because we believe in creating a space where even the tiniest family member is treated with care and respect.

Thanks for understanding. And hey, your socks are cute anyway.
